UnrealSP Chat popularity

It seems that not a lot of people are particularly interested in joining the USP chat, since it scarcely goes beyond 3 to 4 available chatters. I often see people join for about 2 to 3 minutes, then quit because of a lack of instant responses.

What would motivate you to join the chat more often? Do you have technical trouble accessing it? Does the Mibbit applet work correctly for you? Would you rather access it via a convenient program rather than a browser-based app? Or do you just not have enough time to join it?

Help me with my userbase research! \o/

The main reason I went off chat is because, after the initial burst of popularity, the discussion died down and it was dead for long stretches and 95% of the stuff that did happen was completely random shit with no interesting discussion like it had quite a bit of when it first started. Maybe that changed again at some point, but that's why I stopped visiting (not sure what could be done about something like that though).

Well, chat rooms tend to be dead for longer periods of time, especially with a low user count. That's why it's common to 'idle' in IRC chats, i.e. keeping the chat open in the background while minding other business, regularly checking whether any discussions have been started. It also doesn't hurt to initiate them yourself!

Can't really comment on discussion quality at this point, since it depends on the present users; though I'd say that with our current (tiny) base of regulars, conversations are in the safe, non-crappy zone.

I like it, and peruse it occasionally when I'm doing Unreal-related stuff.

I'll be honest. I can't even get it to work any more (on this current laptop). Couldn't tell you why, though I rarely have time to sit and entertain chat sessions regardless, unless I was invited to something specific.

Don't have the time any more! :(

Working full time is hard. Also there's the timezone lag thing.

I used to have a look at the chat and lurked a bit there but basically it's nothing for me. I know much too little about the technical stuff in Unreal to join the conversation there. But I have nothing against it, I did notice some technical exchanges there which would be a lot more difficult to execute in the forum itself.

Most chat I ever been at you see a list of names, but rarely anyone is around.Or they hold a conversation while you pop up and never a word to the new logger on-er.

I think there is like 2 or three people here that use the chat the most, mainly just talk among themselves.

To mirror the post I made at the end of october, my ability to use the chat remains pretty random. Usually when I log on I simply see a black page.

Will, try using an IRC application (like mIRC or any other given client)... connect to SynIRC and then to channel: #unrealsp -- this will always work for you. Yes, it's the hassle of having another app in the background, but I find it to just work better, more reliably than mibbit.
