This is ONE ending map. Summer is a pretty good time to take a look at it again.

This map amazed me when I first played it, even after the previous three. The way MadMartigan used fog to simulate dust and sunlight was pure brilliance. The ending made me really excited for a second Shrak episode. It's really a shame that nothing ever came of it.
Looking at it more closely, it's not flawless. There are quite a few BSP holes, and it's easy to notice how the sand textures tile. Even then, it's probably ties with Unreal's ending as my favorite ending map.

This is probably the best custom ending map as far as Unreal maps go.

Good fucking lord I can't think of a pack wrapped up much better than this one. For its time, the visuals and scripted events were absolutely top-notch and still beat the pants off of many modern releases. Pretty amazing what stock assets can do.

I loved this whole mappack, and this was the best ending that it could have offered. I'm still not sure how to use interpolation points (I've always used UDS cameras and the rest of the UDS stuff) but he used them greatly. I just love that he used the not-very-often-used desert theme and I think that he was the first? Although before I played it I thought that I was the first...
Anyway, an overall suuuuperb map(pack).

Brilliant ending map. Still feeling the shivers down my spine from when I first played it.

I don't get it.
I've never seen this map before yet I have the file in my Unreal/maps directory and I've played the Tower of Shraki'tha many times.
Anyway, so I started and had a quick run through (2 minutes) ... wow... not only is the architecture way above par, but the desert is convincing (even upon close scrutiny the illusion doesn't fail). And the distance views ... damn, why did MadMartigan not continue his Unreal mapping career.
I'm certainly going to look for everything he made.
BTW I guess it's just an eye candy map, I didn't encounter any enemies (but that doesn't take anything away from this map).

I remember spending a ridiculously long time just wandering around the desert when I first played this map, I was just that impressed. More convincing than the deserts in UT and they have textures made specifically for that theme.

...aaaaand I just noticed that Mine textures are used on the outer ruins. I'd say that was a really good choice on madmartigan's part. I never thought that those textures would work that well in a map like this.

The video is actually two because the first half of the ending only displayed properly in Unreal 1 and the second half only worked in UT (227i issue?).
For a one minute ending map the attention to detail is incredible; not only are there a bunch of ahead-of-it's-time techniques (like fog to simulate dust), but there's also an entire desert out there that you don't need to go to at all. There isn't really anything to find there, but the fact it even exists is cool enough in itself. The ending cutscene also wraps things up well.
