I am crashing every time I touch the translator item in the first level of Unreal while playing it with Oldskool Amp'd in UT.
UT is at 451, AMP'd at 2.38, On windows 7. The maps for Unreal were taken from Unreal Gold. This is the same set up I've always played it on, only that was back on windows XP. Is this issue related to my using windows 7?

I dunno about windows 7 but I would recommend reverting to patch 436 if you plan to play SP levels. I know Oldskool in particular comes at odds when version 451 is loaded and for a fact I can tell you my own campaigns do not function properly under similar settings. Every time I've tried playing SP levels in 451 I've had issues, regardless of OS.
If you play with 436 and it still happens then I am at a loss, as that is quite an unusual bug.

I will try that and get back.
Edit: That fixed it.
Now, I am getting the random speed issues when using anything other than software rendering. I'll have a look at the UT speed issues thread.

That's usually UT trying to run on more than one core at once. You can set the affinity of UnrealTournament.exe to use only 1 core ( task manager -> processes tab -> right-click UT -> set affinity -> cpu 0)

Well, I googled and found an OGL driver which had framelimiting and that fixed it just fine. However all animated textures go about a thousand miles per hour. Though thats not really an issue for me.

What brand of graphics chip are you using ?
Are you saying you were using the old Win9x renderers, and had never replaced them before ?
Which OpenGL renderer are you now using ?
Have you now changed any of the renderer or engine options since replacing the GL renderer ?
If so what ?
If not, then your OpenGL settings have the wrong defaults, left over from the previous 1.
v451b is only to be used for hosting servers, as it breaks several parts of UT and the editor.
If you are using Win7, then you should think about trying the DX10 renderer anyway.
Any new renderer you use, will have a bunch of new settings the old ones do not.
You will need to inspect these and configure to your liking.
Easiest way is to do it with UT running.
As you have Oldskool installed, you can open the "Advanced Options" window from the "options" menu.

AFAIR I had a similar problem which was solved by running U (or UT) in compatibility mode.

I have UT running in winxp sp3 mode. And I did update the .ini file for the new driver. The fast animations are related to cpu speed [somehow]. It is something i've noticed every time I installed unreal on a new system with a different cpu speed. When I installed it originally on my 533mhz machine [waaaaay back in the day] the water fall in nyleve was butt slow, on windows xp machine which was 2.5ghz it was moderately faster, now I am on an i7 and it lighting speed lol.

Set the refresh rate in the open GL section of the .ini
I set mine to the same as windows uses, I didn't change anything else, possibly the mouse speed in the game. win7 pro, 64bit, ut99 436, oldskool, i7 CPU
and crank everything to max that you can, to slow it down, lol

The only problem I have at the moment is when playing tracks from oldskool's music tab, it just plays the first second of the track and keeps re-re-re-repeating. Is there any way to fix that?

It's an issue with oldskool, the audio in levels and stuff is fine. It's when you use oldskools player to override the music that it messes up.

Does UT even make those? I'll check.
Edit: Well, I went and tried to play music but the button to play is greyed out. So I can't actually re-produce the bug
Random Tidbit: I seen Unreal 2 for the first time the other day.... ew. There was nothing about it that was remotely 'unreal' that we have come to know. And from the first 2-3 hours I seen, I don't think there was any lighting, all the levels were just one ambient light level. Fairly poor textures aswell.
