Subject: Masked textures issue

Post Posted: 30 Mar 2014, 09:45

Recently I installed the S3TC textures on my UT install and it appears to work for the most part, however some of the masked textures don't appear to be working properly like the Skybox textures. At first I thought this was simply that widely known issue so I replaced that UTX package with the original version and that went away but other textures still have this issue. It doesn't seem to matter if they're high-res or not and it even affects custom textures.

Any ideas on what settings are causing this? (OpenGL driver in case anyone was wondering)

The ut99.org forums are going on/off the past few weeks spewing #500 errors... So if that link ain't working, try again later.

Ignore the textures on CD2.
Use the fixed versions from the UTTexture site.
Choose which size package you can use here,
http://www.uttexture.com/UT/Website/Dow ... xtures.htm
Depending on how much Graphics RAM you have, you can pick from;
S3TC Low End
32Mb
64 Mb
128 Mb
Or higher

S3TC High End
128 Mb (Try High End first, if it lags(stuttering framerates) switch to Low End))
256 Mb
384 Mb
512 Mb
Or higher

S3TC Extreme End
512 Mb
1024 Mb
2048 Mb
4096 Mb

256 Mb SLI
512 Mb SLI
2048 Mb SLI
4096 Mb SLI
Or higher

I just usually use the standard textures, since editing with the high res ones is a pain - if it even works.

Definitely make sure you have the latest OpenGL renderer though.

You are specifically told everywher you look NEVER use Hi-Res textures for editing, so that is not a valid reason to not use them :shake:
I keep a second install for editing, or I would never be able to enjoy a modern game of UT on modern hardware.
My editing copy is clean, and my gaming copy is full of all sorts of crazy mods and changes.

The first moment you play Unreal with better textures, and look down at the bed in your cell, you can see why you updated.

NOTE: Do not use OpenGL if you have an ATI or intel card.
Intel disabled several HW functions, and ATI does not use the faster RAM on the graphics card.
Only use OpenGL with ATI if you are using shared system RAM.

The latest renderers can be found at Oldunreal.

All true, and I do have separate installs. I'm just too lazy to switch back and forth. Some high res textures are great, but others are way too high in contrast for my liking.
