Hi guys, my UT99 has broken after the latest windows 10 update (I think it was called the "anniversary" update).

I'm severely regretting upgrading to windows 10 right now, because UT99 and Unreal are the only games I care about. Has this happened to anyone else and is there a known fix?

What happens is I just get a black screen with a "Unreal tournament has stopped working" dialog box.

On unreal the game loads alright and I can navigate the menu based on memory, but the screen is totally black

The first thing I would do is testing every possible video renderer, audio renderer (including "No sound") and running the game in windowed mode. Also try the newer unofficial ones. Then there are the compatibility options.

I haven't had any problems with Unreal on windows 10. As yrex said it sounds like it might be a renderer issue, or maybe you need to update your graphics card driver (or even downgrade if they updated automatically...).

Edit: Compatability options might help as well.

no problems for me running ut99 or unreal on win 10.
whatch out for driver crap. older videocards with discontinued support ie cards that only had vista drivers/ with acceleration (while not using generic win driver) can most deffinity cause issues , had to give up on my s300se in unreal on win 7/10, the drivers were so bad , it was corrupting the videomemory in game.

Pretty hard to help without system information and a look at the .log files. I'm also on Windows 10 and all of the Unreal games are working fine.

Hi back again,

I updated my OpenGl to the latest renderers from OldUnreal, and now it's very hit and miss whether I can get UT to start.

I've managed to get it to start with no problems twice, but then after starting a game and playing for a bit, alt-tabbing to the desktop etc it crashes.

but the far more common situation is that the game either 1. refuses to start (crash on startup) or 2. starts, and I can hear the city flyby intro but the screen is totally white. I can also esc to the menu and access the console, although I cannot see what I'm doing visually because of the totally white screen.

This did the trick, cheers.

I also had some screen tearing issues in Unreal and UT afterwards, but after disabling Vsync (I have no idea how that got enabled in the first place. It's only ever caused me problems XD) everything is sweet.
