Mister Prophet put his reviewing hat on and took Team86's now rather ancient UT SP pack Peril on Mars down a peg or two. The new review, which offers a balanced account of the map pack's various strengths and weaknesses, can be found by clicking here or by visiting the Custom Map Reviews section, as usual.

It should be said that the lack of story really murdered the score.

Yes, as is so often the case with the oldest packs. With EZkeel's work, on the other hand, it sometimes saves the score.

I never really tally them all up whenever I do a review, so it doesn't influence me to alter anything. So I didn't know the final score until you posted it.
It probably sounds harsh, but I hope people appreciate why it's low. Three or four bland, fantastically generic log entries with typos does not a story make. Had to mark it appropriately there.
Otherwise I think it's a very decent pack and it would have scored a lot higher.

nice review, i couldn't agree more with everything said there.
although i somehow wished more was said about the third map then "just another dungeon", as it struck me as the more memorable one. Particulary because of the scripted sequence with the nali, and the (fugly lighted yet cool) windowed hallway with lighting.

After I played the pack and starting writing the review, I found that all I could really remember worth mentioning was the scene that used the Nali to open the door. I did take a few screenshots of that area I believe, though I think only 1 made it into the review.
I guess there was just more to mention about the other maps.

The UT version was much better than the U1 one... the latter didn't have the ending FlyBy.
Not having to worry about reloading the enforcer helped a bit in the beginning. Also, trading the Stinger in for a Pulse gun is certainly an upgrade.
