To be honest, ajaxchat sucked anyway. 
I see now that mibbit has some issues with uptime, but since you can remain in chat without problems once you've loaded the applet once, it shouldn't be that big of a problem... IRC is just better!
Maybe there's a better alternative IRC applet floating around somewhere?
