I want to convert an entire (brush+mover) map from UT99 to unreal....How?

I am almost done with my first unrealSP map and I want to maybe make it a trilogy, the next logical map from my first unrealSP map would be a mod from my UT99 map postmodern. I know how to import pieces of UT99 maps in because a few bits of the SP are comprised of my UT99 maps, but how to convert an ENTIRE map (brushes and movers only because actors would not match up) from UT99 to Unreal?

Delete all non-matching actors and open map in Unreal 227 editor, maybe?
Also, you may need unofficial Botpack.u version for Unreal at first. Then, get rid of Botpack reference in Unreal editor (I don't remember all the commands which purge unused resources from map).

i could write a book on this. like i started to write a multi chapter article on the different ways 2 years ago , and never finished.

You have at least 3 ways to do this, decide how you want to attack it based on your needs and the geometry of the map.

- the simplest way it to just open the map in 227 using the botpack mod and see what happens or work from there

- Export or copy/paste entire map in ut , and import it into unreal, you need to load any assets and textures etc before you import to unreal, stuff it cant find will be dropped.. copypaste will avoid misaligned movers over import etc

-Delete all actors from the map , Then run it tho the ut > 224 map converter. then try and open it in unreal using ut textures etc. then copy/paste back the actors.

-use if you want to not use botpack , you can use tools like the mappurger brushbuilder to strip botpack /upak references from the map first ( or last).

or , any combination of these techniques

Thanks for the info, I did copy/paste with the pieces I took from my old UT maps into my first Unreal SP map.

So I think rightclick highlight all actors then invert selection. I replaced botpack accidentally from UT to Unreal I figure I'll just reinstall 227h and that will fix it.

But if I delete all actors or copy/paste just the movers and brushes would I need to worry about modified botpack?

whatever is invalid or not loadable will just be lost , so if you dont copy paste actors etc they just wont be there.

if you copy paste brushes etc , depending on your method used , make sure to open all the needed texture files first , otherwise you will have to retexture everything after you rebuild.

If you want the actors copy then paste actors from one to the other , when you paste it and the package is not loaded , ei you didnt preload some botpack replacment mod/assests into unreal 227 first berfore the paste, the invalid stuff will usually just be lost.

tldr : depending on what your method you used yes , or no. copy pasting into a new map? no issues , using a convertered map , yes , probably issues( mainly texture related).

So far I was able to still have the lighting, and the sound effects, plus the movers, and the brushes. So with some tweaks map #2 will be done. Then I'll do #3 and release a trilogy.
