External editing tools like that are permitted. Unreal's terrain wasn't done in UnrealEd either!

Jet v4.3.5 wrote:2) 227g's mesh to BSP function - Can we convert the stock Unreal meshes to BSP or is that a no go? Obviously we could make similar shapes in the editor and try to use the skin or other textures if necessary, but is that extra enhancement allowed or not, even if the final result uses BSP and the stock skin of that mesh?

I don't see why not. You could achieve the same by importing the meshes into a modeling program and then exporting as .t3d or .obj or whatever. It doesn't break compatibility and it's not a new ENGINE feature, just a fancy-shmancy extra tool built into the editor.

@Qtit He's talking about doing the reverse thing - converting old Unreal vertex meshes to BSP. No static meshes involved.

Oh, right. Sorry then. My mind just didn't cope with the fact that anyone would need that kind of conversion...

Such conversions don't sound safe to me at all. Imagine the BSP tree suddenly having to cope with that many off grid verticies and wierdly rotated polygons. :P

If anything, they would be seldom-used movers. It's not really important, but I wanted to ask. The terrain stuff counts a lot more for me, and the mesh to brush question was more of a curious tag-along inquery.

I don't want to make a map, but still I want to have this clarified: I took a look at the rules, but I didn't see any rule restricting the use of brushes from the original Unreal campaign. So is this allowed? What about RtNP?

From RTNP only the music is allowed. No other assets.

Kinda surprised no one wants to build something like the "inverted castle" (or upside down castle) from a well known pack (uh.. forgot the name myself, it's been a while)..... :P

Shinigami :P

Shini told me he wants to complete the mappack, since most of it is done. He's just extremely limited on time currently.

wait, what? I haven't heard from shingami for AGES. Has he been mapping and modding the rest of his classic pack without telling anyone? :P

I've been talkin' to him on MSN. He doesn't have the time right now due to work...but as far as he's told me, he definitely plans on finishing the project. There's like 20 more maps or somethin' to Shinigami O_O

Sometimes I see the dead (or deadish) threads all over USP pimping packs that never get a news update, and I get scared that the original authors have moved on and don't plan on coming back (Like Hellscrag), but then I hear stuff like that. Well, as long as the intent is there, maybe we'll see these packs released. I wonder if MadMartigan is still working on his Shrakitha sequel...

Double take: 20 more maps?!? How many of them are already built?

From what I knew, most of them lol. I'll see if maybe he can find the time to post something about it here on USP...don't wanna clutter up this thread with too much off-topicness
