lolwtf.

how did a darn smesh get into the map. checking
edit: finding random crap about unrealshare.old now. i unfortunately don't have time to debug this. map will have to be 227 only for now  even if it means disqualification.

Once you got rid of the static mesh, make sure to run the converter utility. The converter runs in UT99, so copy your map into your UT maps folder and then run the converter. More info in the readme.

A lot of stuff from 227/UPak ended up in my map, too. They're not so bad to get rid of if you just search for actors, get rid of them, and test to see if there are others you missed.

hah interesting map, probably the most unique idea i've seen up to date in unreal, hope you'll conclude this map someday!
very atmospheric to, some attention to detail you've got there.
i was really wondering what would come the further i descended into the darkness, especially after the growls and sounds increased :P
This was a really interesting map!
**** physics and math! Harry Potter ftw! :x
The detail was great, and the messages and flashes of light really made it seem like you were isolated for a very, very long time.

Haha damn! totally not the response I was expecting for 7 hours of mapping

Thanks guys! \o/

Okay, time to grapple with this convertor thingy....
Edit: it seems to assume that i made my map in UT. This one doesn't even run in UT. :/ Giving it a go anyway

edit2:

It looks like Leo(T.C.K.) already fixed it for you.

Played the map now it's converted, and wow. Very interesting, I want to know what comes next!! If this took 7 hours I'm sure making a continuation wouldn't be too hard.
Considering how short this is, a great atmosphere was set and the character had more of a story to them than most Unreal characters, who do nothing other than run around killing stuff.
Things got very creepy running through the tunnel, luckily the console was there to bring back the messages I didn't have a chance to read before they disappeared.
Finally found the time to donwload all of the released contest maps, and I already played a few.

I'll honour this map by letting it be the first of those maps to receive my critiscism/blessings/insults/etc..

Let's start with the critiscism: What were you thinking by releasing this piece of s...urprising idea.
Let explain my critiscism: I mean it's not fair - what happens next??? This was totally unexpected (in a good way) and I think you found a very good balance between nothingness and expectation. It's hard to believe that a map which can be finished in about 15 seconds took me 5 minutes or more, full of excitement, apprehension and mental fears. The way the atmosphere is set up and tension kept alive, is a work of art.
Strictly speaking this isn't an Unreal map, and yet it is. OK, replay value isn't much but as an intro-map this one stands tall
This map does a really good job setting up a story and atmosphere with extremely minimal design (although there are plenty of detail props), and it feels pretty creepy too. Too bad there isn't more to the story yet (I guess it ends when you warped back anyway, as I haven't got anything else to happen.)
Just played it, really fascinating stuff.
You did a great job with the tunnel, the sound-effects and the text giving me an overwhelming urge to turn back - I never did though. I love the detail you put into the player's home in the tunnel; if I was in the protagonists's position I would probably act exactly the same way. It hits home alot closer than many games I've played, let alone Unreal maps.
