no info yet, but here are some totally amazin ass screenshots

story:
you are some sort of scare!
you have betrayed (or been betrayed by) your own kind...
needless to say you ended up in some crappy cell and must ESCAPE!
and something to do with rails which im sure you can all speculate about
horror.

cant have a speedmap without a speedstory so thats pretty much it!

I have never seen such a cool electrical barrier (in Unreal) . I hope, animated it looks as good as in the screenshot.

good thing i have no fantasies about being a winner here :D very nice scenes - already it seems skaarj is a popular (or should i say standard?) theme.... I guess you guys that have been doing SP for a while already are comfortable enough to start building rooms from the start? my thinking is to block a whole map out first, do the ai stuff (cause i'm still learning that) and then replace the blocks with the proper rooms once the map "works".... does that sound wanky?

No, that's an absolutely valid (and the most common) approach to mapping. I tried doing that sorta stuff myself, but it just left me with a fully "blocked-out" deathmatch level that I have no idea how to turn into a polished, eye-candy-rich map...

That's exactly the approach I'm taking :P I've been messing with the editor on and off for years, but I've only released one thing that I can truly say is all my own work. This competition is a learning experience

I usually try to build an environment that suits specific engineering and structural requirements (based on my best guess of what the level's purpose and function are and how those purposes might be fulfilled), and then build playability into it while working around the obstacles created by the initial design. It's a lot harder and makes for a much greater design challenge, but it does make the maps feel more believable. I've never actually built a whole map without any detail before.

ok.. here is what I think unrail is: You're in a train and you have to.. uh.. wait.. that's custom scripting.. right? Ok, new try: those corridors are not horizontal.. but diagonal. You're in a big ball (bubble) that rolls down the corridor... and you have to shoot at certain things to open doors (or the electrical barrier). Failure will result in being gibbed.

that green light-effect/barrier looks mighty awesome!
Would you share what the f*** you did here?

Are those subtle lens-flares?

Looks like an XFX texture along with a watery shimmer light effect...

Funny, the train sounds like it requires LESS scripting than the bubble :P
