Forest Run
By Legendslayer222
After In the Air failed, I decided to do something very, very quick, an ultra speedmap, just so you have something to play.

NOTE: There is an error with the 224 version from the converter. The mountains in my skybox don't appear right (they aren't masked). What happened?
EDIT: It appears I missed something obvious in my haste to release. UT masks that texture by default so in Unreal it goes wrong, but I missed that in my hurry to release. Something to fix in my final version. For now, this fix from Leo (who solved my dilemma, thanks):

For being such a quickly made map, I thought this was really good. I really liked the skybox, and the location of the level wasn't something I remember seeing in any other SP map.

Nice job!

I really like the whole lumberyard theme. It was really well done.

This theme was good for the fact it allowed me to copy and paste everything to save time! Trees, log piles, tents...
Also a fix to my problem in the first post for those playing on Unreal.
Sadly my short time mapping meant I could only put one Easter Egg in. Well, more stuff to add for the final.

It is difficult (and nearly impossible) to make a forest in Unreal without using custom content. However, you did a great job in trying a new environment. Sure, the trees look strange but they also give the map a nice touch and there's nothing discuss about the awesomeness of the lamberyards. The gameplay was medium but all in all the map was a nice experience.

Thanks!
If it had more time I could have tried to make more, better branches and more layers of leaves so the trees didn't just appear to be long stumps wearing funny hats. Don't know what a lamberyard is though.
For the gameplay I was trying to create the atmosphere of a place infested with Skaarj, and 7 or 8 Skaarj isn't bad for the maps length. Also, the reason for the armour vests everywhere is because I was trying to mimic The Man from A.H.R.G.

Despite the funny looking trees... the place did really feel like a forest, the right lighting/ambience was chosen to accompany that just too bad about that broken skybox mask in 227.
overall quite short, but the amount of combat really made it longer.

There is a fixed version of the map in the first post.
When I made the short canyon that is the playable area, I asked myself "really? this is the map??" but there are a few structures and stuff to get around which lengthens the playtime, and as you said, I put Skaarj in everywhere I could fit them.
Also, are there any bugs/problems to be fixed in the final version of Forest Run (apart from the sky)? What would be the general opinion if I added some stuff like a few buildings in that empty area before the escape pod?

A few buildings wouldn't be a bad idea, but they might get in the way during the final fight.
I don't think I noticed any bugs, aside from one or two minor BSP holes.

Where? Let me kill them! In fact, I would likely make it worse.
I'll try not to build anything too big so there is still room to get back from the action.
However, the changes will be for the final version after judging as the contest is over now.

Yeah, little things like that are nothing to worry about. I could put an ugly shrub over the top so nobody sees it.

Trespassers will fall through a hole that leads out of the playable area!
