It's been a while. WHADDAYA WANT

Close to two years have gone by since the last release of anything, which is a long-ass time. A lot of cool stuff has been added, and even more has been improved. However, most of the development work has surrounded Corrupted Corpse / CA rather than the core campaign maps.

The last time I played the campaign was early this year. The fully-rebuilt Doom Arena is done and a total blast. However, I lost steam when moving on to the dark maps -- they need more thought put into them for a major revamp if they aren't going to be forever relegated to the boring transition maps they are now. I also started work on a total rebuild of Highlands of Despair, but that's a significant undertaking and I didn't get that far. I intend to complete that effort, but it will take considerable time / a large burst of inspiration to power through. Once I do, though, revitalizing Telefire would be trivial, as that map needs very little modernization.

On the flip side, Corrupted Corpse is undergoing massive improvements and is nearly complete on that front, relatively speaking. It's also changed enormously since this video was recorded. For one, that ship isn't even in the map anymore, which wound up being a good decision both for technical stability and gameplay. That ship will make appearances in other maps, though, don't worry. We put a lot of effort into a spruced up Prometheus hull, so it's not going to be wasted!

CC is the most well-developed, technically advanced, gameplay-polished and playtested EXU2 map there has ever been. It's pretty much the only thing EBM and I have been playing in coop over the past few years. It's balls-hard, but extremely fun if you appreciate squaring off against massive forces (and bringing to bear massive firepower). There are many areas to fight in and [attempt to] secure, and a variety of strategic and tactical options not found in any other map. So if you want to see some truly next-gen EXU2 gameplay at work, this would be the place to look.

Note that given historical trends, "finishing" EXU2 in the traditional sense of having a completed campaign and final version of the code base is extremely unlikely. I don't have the time to sit down and really crack out a lot of new maps at this point. On the flipside, I don't really ever see myself NOT working on EXU in one way or another. It's just not focused on a single SP campaign like it originally was -- now it's more about making whatever is the most fun, which shifts over time. So If you go with #5, know that it's more than likely not gonna happen. #1-4 are all doable, though, probably within a year at the latest.

Definitely totally without a doubt 100% want to get my hands on the CA Gametype / Corrupted Corpse map as soon as possible. The screenies tell it all. Hell, I might even put in more time the next time around when I try to create a map that can be considered "CA-styled" after seeing what you've done with CC.

As an aside, it would be nice to have a server maybe just run that map all the time, or even CA alone. I'd consider doing that with mine. For the moment, I've tried something new by having a "custom" mod spawn waves of EXU monsters and SP-Fix deathmatch to score those frags.

CA isn't actually a gametype, just a style of mapping, to clarify. It's simply EXU2 coop, but with maps that are designed to have infinite enemies and completely insane gameplay. Playing them solo, offline, is... well, not recommended.

Oooooohhh... so, nothing really in the way of specialized actors/considerations. It really is EXU2 coop for sadists. Good to know!

EDIT: I was confused at the mention of numbered items in OP until I logged in and saw the poll :lol: well, of course, I have cast my vote for #3.

#4 for me, because given my limited time for all things Unreal I will only play through Batshit Insane again once the original 16 maps at least are present in v6.

I have voted for #4, because i wanted the 12-16 maps for too LONG! :x

Last time i've seen the 12-16 maps was in 5.03 version, it's strange! Looks like those maps never existed and nobody played them!

Now i feel we are back in Demo 3. :(

P.S: - LOL those CA maps, my laptop will explode, i better use my gaming PC, sadly i have ugly aim with it.
- I don't have friends, i'm forced to play alone those CA maps, there is a small problem, you need two players to trigger 1 thing.

It was indeed awesome, even on maps us coop players are supposed to skip. (But we never do.....)
If that is low on Waff's big list, and he hasn't gotten to it yet, I may look into repairing those if I can.
Been working on some similar code for a few mutators of mine, and they are just about done.

really partial to Option #4. (I think.... Don't like option #5 at all.)
