Operation 360

My simple pan is to make 365 custom maps for Unreal II.
I have 1 day to finish 1 map, and I'am not allowed to make more than 1.

Haha, good luck! If you actually pull off a map a day I will be VERY impressed, regardless of quality (so long as it's not just a bunch of "cube with brute" style maps when you're feeling lazy)

Also this would be a briiliant art pack if you succeeded because it would be like one of those "day-by-day weightloss photojournals": we'd be able to see you're improvement as a mapper as each day went by.

Also I'm not going to complain about more unreal 2 content although it does seem a bit weird that you've chosen U2 rather than Unreal (where simpler, bite-sized SP would probably be better received and of a better relative quality). Considering the focus of this pack is "a map a day", perhaps you would be open to doing the maps on multiple platforms and different gametypes?. If there are no restrictions on what you create besides "Unreal series" and "Must be one map a day", you could do an UT2004 onslaught level one day, an Unreal darkmatch level the next, and a U2 XMP map the day after that. You could also target mods, such as chaos, jailbreak, red-orchestra, whatever. I personally would be very interested in such a project. Either way, best wishes! (if you choose to go this route, please please make sure to record somewhere in which order you made the levels, perhaps the filenames? "Day1.ut2", "Day2.unr" etc. or "18thOct2013.unr")

As to your first map, I haven't yet been able to play. My unreal2 install is buggered and I haven't bothered with repairing my registry yet. This gives an excuse to get around to it

Yeah, cool idea, certainly helps build mapping discipline too I imagine! I'd for sure do something like this if I had the time. I agree with the sentiment that it would be more varied and interesting to use all of the Unreal games on different days.

As for the first map, [spoiler]I totally wasn't expecting the Skaarj to be on me so quickly. :o When I remembered how Unreal 2 worked (it's been a while) I duked it out with the Skaarj for some time before becoming to the conclusion they were invincible. I died and restarted, and the second time I killed them almost instantly. :? That was a bit strange!

As for the environment, it was pretty lacklustre, although the time limitations do limit what you can build. It did serve it's purpose as an arena with cover and multiple heights, so good job there. :tup: I also had way too much fun covering my buddy with fire and spiders. :twisted:[/spoiler]

Interesting challenge I guess. I don't think at the moment that 365 custom Unreal II maps even exist. Good luck with your efforts.

Nice idea, as it is very much a personal quest so should push you in ways you did not expect.
Partly though boredom and "hitting a wall" as you start running out of ideas.
That is the point you throw the rule-book out the window, and do something insane.

I now need to find where my Unreal 2 is hidden.

It would be good to feature some mods or mutators. If you are keeping things simple, they may be an easy way of adding an objective.
I wonder if Gopostals destroyable brush mod can be ported ?

As Dr. Flay mentioned, boredom, mapper's block and just plain lack of time will set in sooner rather than later. I fear the 365 goal is set way too high. Personally I'ld go for a 52 campaign. One map each week, which (I think) will allow you to experiment more, could probably expand and increase your skills more significantly.

Unfortunately I don't have U2 so I won't be playing these maps (maybe it's better like this considering I'm behind with some new maps and with replaying other maps on higher difficulty settings).
