EDIT: ok map 3's slowdowns are caused by the deco shadows at least. Turn them off.

Literally one other person in the history of the internet has gotten this kind of error message (at least google searchable). That was darksider for 227e, when he tried to reconnect to his server in a frenzy which was known to cause problems at the time, going back as far as unrealgold/lol226f.

that function(UGameEngine::GetMaxTickRate) is an if/else chain containing clamps according to smirf. It doesn't really do anything that could break. Aside from having a severely corrupt level, that function actually should just return 0 for clients all of the time(to not enforce a max tick rate). That function is really only useful for servers so I am told.

Can you produce this again and provide the full or at least.. more of the log? pastebin.org is useful for this.

This looks to me like a video driver related issue. Have you tried different ones when starting the map? I could run it fine with Direct3D9 for example.
The Unforchers will come again soon...

Tried changing already graphical properties but I think it's unrelated. When loaded through the editor I can see one second of the map at least but it crashes immediately. Even changed the PlayerStart to no avail.

can you try using FMOD? can edit your unreal.ini :

Looks like something causes my whole client to freeze when I use galaxy and pick up a book right next to spawn cow2-02-ds. Can't get it to crash on start like you though. 227j does not have this issue using galaxy though.

Edit: can you comment all your Suppress= entries too if you still crash? When I pick up the book reigstersound firetrucks.pickups.ol1_journal_pick is the last log entry I see before it freezes.

I can't run it on 227i, there are some error messages reffering to Core.dll and then the game itself says it can't find file for package 'UnrealShare.Logo', or something.

FMOD just tanks?... that's really.. really weird. Does ALAudio work? could always try the -nosound parameter... something seems really jacked there if flyby just doesn't work. Is language set to INT?

Sounds like it's trying to load the wrong system files, and unrealshare.logo is a classic bug of something being built on gold and not working on 225f

are you using a different system directory for 227i install?

INT yes.
OpenAL works but crashes at the map with the same weird error.

I'll be testing renderers now
EDIT: D3D9 in, same error. I give up.

Yeah I don't think it's renderer related. For what it's worth it looks like the sounds are in non-standard formats for unreal, so I wonder if unreal.exe -nosound would fix your problem.... not that it should, since everything is software mixed in openal without a specific configuration(227 uses openalsoft that disables hardware mixing for the majority)

At this point, it really seems like something is corrupted with your install. Sure, I can freeze on galaxy AFTER everything loads ok, but i don't get an on-boot crash. something this catastrophic probably isn't caused by an ini setting, but you could also try deleting unreal.ini and have it auto regenerate...

If you really want to try the nuclear option, reinstall unreal completely new to a different directory and patch that up to 227i and use openal. This way you could eventually figure out what is corrupt, possibly, and isolating any other mod incompatibilities... which should also not be an issue.

This is probably the strangest issue I've heard of in a while

edit: by non standard sounds I mean not 44100hz 16 bit or 22050hz 16bit. again, not like this should matter but galaxy does hang on 227i, seems fixed in j though.

Yep, I rarely install games in their default directory. What should I do then?

non-default directory isn't the problem, it's possible (and I have dozens of these) to do this

install v220 unreal to c:\games\unrealgold

copy the system folder of v220 that I just installed from c:\games\unrealgold\System to c:\games\unrealgold\220System

then you can patch your install to 225f, and then copy c:\games\unrealgold\System to c:\games\unrealgold\225fSystem

and so on..

each of those "xxxxSystem" folders needs to have their Unreal.ini altered because by default the install looks for ..\System.

So for 225f system you'd do..

[Core.System]
...
Paths=..\System\*.u

to
[Core.System]
...
Paths=..\225fSystem\*.u


If you don't do this, really weird shit can happen like loading the wrong engine.u and engine.dll in your folder has different symbols than what engine.u expects and things explode, like the cryptic "error messages refering to Core.dll" or "package 'UnrealShare.Logo'" when infact your packages are fine and contain the correct things

This method saves a bit of hard drive space with not having to copy a boatload of maps/textures/etc around everywhere for every version you want installed. I also make a folder called "SharedSystem" and add all map dependencies and junk into there and add an appropriate *.u entry in the paths under the first *.u path so that all installs can load all maps (assuming their version is compatible with maps/mods..)

So it seems there's like three people here who can't get it run properly (though it seems one might be related to something else)? This actually makes me glad I released it now, because stuff like this can't really be sorted without more players and people with more experience of the engine to work out what causing the issues.

I'm really liking it so far - the horror element is really fantastic - but I've been stuck at the part where you can't save for a while. I don't know if other people have this problem, but pressing escape makes my game crash. I'm fine with not being able to save, but I have a tendency to press escape once in a while out of habit, which leads to the problem of me having to start all over.
