Just throwing this out there, not sure if it's been done before. Tossed this together this morning.

interesting, but why not diagonally instead of simply vertical? And make it thinner or something.. or make it a layer with tiny rocks or something (or an image showing something like that).

Because you are ON the ring, looking up. If it was diagonal, either you'd be on a bent/twisted segment, or you'd be standing diagonally or something.

Exactly. As for making it thinner, I wanted to but I'm not sure how well that would look with Unreal's rendering engine. As it is it's very pixelated.
Another thing I know is that the shadow squares are way too close to the ring itself. This was a limitation of the Light radius, I couldn't illuminate the ring from any further towards the sun...stupid lights

Didn't Halo have a concept like that. I don't really follow or like the series that much, but I remember seeing that and being all blown away by the concept in itself. This is, of course, a very interesting idea.

Same concept as the Halo skyboxes, which was really cool.

I imagine it did: Halo is based off of Larry Niven's ringworld. I've never played Halo though

You didn't missed much
Nice work, I believe there was similar map, but it used portals (forgot class name ) to create ringworld like map.

Awesome pictures
"Not sure if it's been done before"
I thought you were joking at first
I wouldn't mind seeing it in a map though

It's a nice idea. Halo: Combat Evolved was a good shooter really. Had great MP, and epic atmosphere and.... THIS
LINK
Have a look
Anyway, in U227 it would be easy to create that kind of stuff (statics!) If you need textures you can use google maps

Haha I had a feeling when I posted this that a few Halo fans would call foul Hopefully there's a few Larry Niven fans out there to back me up
And I meant "not sure if it's been done in Unreal". Also, Halo would have been slightly less difficult to make since from what I know about the Halo's they're a LOT smaller. The original Ringworld was 150 million kilometres in radius and a million miles wide. It had the surface area equal to about 3 million earths. What always intrigued me was the "arch" Niven always talked about. The primative residents of the Ringworld often believed that they lived on a flat world, with a giant arch suspended above them, holding up the sun.
In other news, I discovered the "distantlightblahblah" actor in 227, and took the advice to "make it thiner."
Day and Night views. In both, some of the swaths of lighted ring are broken by the shadow squares. Hard to see in such low resolution.
Anyway, I'm putting this one to bed now, just had the crazy idea to try to model it and couldn't let it go Thanks for the feedback!

gotcha. Seen this in a futuristic pic about 20 yrs ago... as some sort of space station. (that same idea i mean; to create gravity)
