I saw The Golden Compass yesterday. Quite a good movie, faithful to the book... up to the end. What did everybody think of this ending? I, for one, was very disappointed.

It was made by The Lord Of The Rings people. However, Peter Jackson did not have any involvement. The movie was based of the first of a trilogy of books by Phillip Pullman. The book was called Northern Lights, but the title changed to The Golden Compass in America. Hope that's enough info for ya :)

Just like that movie Stardust...something about the way the movie looks and how it was marketed gives me absolutely no desire to watch it.

I thought Visc was implying that Skaarj22 had "obtained" the film early, that's how I interpreted it anyway.

Sorry, but after watching the trailer I really think (no cynicism intended) that this movie with all its cliché and fairy tale special effects is a christmas movie for kids and maybe their parents, thats my honest first thought but now I am not that shure anymore, adult persons want to watch this movie too? That puzzles me a bit....
And I thought LOTR was hard on the edge of children territory.

Maybe I am oldskool (or just old). :o

Probably not, since, with some exceptions, book adaptions tend to get butchered in some way. At the least, I'd want to read the book(s) first.

I'm going to see The Golden Compass because the book series is amazing, and I'm interested to see how they bring it to life. The "His Dark Materials" trilogy is one of those series of "children's" books that has also been published as an "adult edition" with more sombre covers. It's a strong work of literature that can appeal to all ages (you just need not to have lost your imagination as you've grown up...).

They also talk about who,why and what happened to the changes, like the ending.

Well, if that's all true than it would certainly balance out all the pro-god stuff kids have to ingest in this country :o
