F3's Experimental MIRV > Redeemer. Okay, shooting eight nukes in a row sounds ridicolous, but it's fun.

How would that work?

A bunch of sniper rifles and duct tape.

You'd have to be a nali then, a bunch of triggers to pull for only ten fingers! :P

That's what a bunch of string and sticks are for!

And how do you hold 10 glued together sniper rifles? And take the recoil of all simultaneously? Sounds like a bad idea! You'd also need spider-like eyes to aim through ten scopes!

Bolt it to a cement pillar. And that's why it's a sniper shotgun; you aim through one, miss with the rest!

In other news, I forgot to mention how badass the Locust MG is in Gears of War. The Lancer chainsaw is pretty damn hilarious too, as is beating Boomers to death with their own weapons.

You actually mentioned the primary reason I enjoy using Shotguns. You have to get up close and personal to use them – and because of the lengthy reload time – each shot has to count! Shotguns aren't just cool because of the shear power they inflict; they are also fun to use because of the skill needed to use them effectively. In Doom 2, I love getting right in the face of the toughest bosses, unloading two barrels of the shotgun, and hiding behind a wall until I'm locked and loaded again.

It makes a game so much more interesting when you have to skillfully get up close to the enemies, rather than just holding down the fire button from further away for 5 seconds until the enemy is dead. I also hate when FPS games give you so much ammo for the sniping weapon that you never have to get up close to anything again. The original Quake 2 missions had this problem. Even on the hardest skill, I remember having full ammo for the Railgun at all times - rendering the rest of my weaponry useless. SP should not be about obtaining weapons that slaughter everything that moves in under a second. It gets boring that way! Ammo for the bigger and better weapons (if they exist) should always be given sparingly in SP games.

We are definitely using the same wavelength on this issue

Couldnt agree more too.

I also like weapons which are very powerful but have big drawbacks so that you have to use it tactically and with thinking.

With a flamethrower as example you are usually very slow and you are prone to be flanked by enemies, but with clever use and knowing your limits you can lay down a lot of hate with it.
Much more fun that pinning down enemies at long range with a automatic hitscan weapon.

Sniper rifles (UT-Style).
One shot, one kill, and the enemy doesn't even know what got him.

Second place: melee, especially U4E Katana (my Redeemer replacement)

As for U2 Assault Rifle: RtNP CAR was better IMO (never liked Jones' saga replacement, original alt-fire is the pure win) - lack of clips, instantly moving boundle, better accuracy and Skaarj incapable of reflecting bullets

It is hard to vote for a category, because withing each category there are good and bad examples.

Energy weapons-
Good: Doom 1/2 plasma gun, Doom 1/2 BFG9000, Unreal ASMD
Bad: UT pulse gun

Shotguns-
Good: Doom 2 double barrel, Serious Sam shotguns
Bad: Doom 1 standard shotgun, Unreal Quadshot.

Heh.

Good thing you don't play Team Fortress 2.. the Pyro's flamethrower requires the least skill of any weapon in the game (disregarding the medigun) since most Pyro players just hold W and primary fire to engulf everybody in flames. :P
