Hellscrag wrote:Apart from a limit of 3GB RAM, would buying the 32-bit version of Windows XP cause me a significant problem at this stage with the gear mentioned above (quad-core CPU, GeForce 8800GT etc.)?

i always had 32 bits version of windows , and never encountered problems with hardware .. im running at this moment on win XP SP2 with a similar config that i posted earlier , except that i have a 8800 GTS 512mo for the video card . i run UT3 at high , 1680x1050 on a 20inch widescreen LCD :)

the new DVI interface that is supported by almost all the screens in the market makes things much more easy .. unlike analogic , the DVI is automatically rescaling the resolution to fit the screen :) its way more pleasing to use than a CRT , only thing to take care of , is the response times , choose something like between 2ms-5ms , to avoid a certain effect of remanence while playing ...
about products bands , i would say Samsung is the way to go , they makes great screens for relative low prices :)

Samsung? They have plenty of those at Dabs.com. Thanks for the tip.

I haven't had any problems w/ widescreen resolutions in any games I've tried since owning one. Anything I've tried either detects widescreen or can be set in the proper resolution. Plus you get to play w/ wider fov w/o the fisheye view :p

Derdak2rot wrote:what i recommend , for a modest price :

Case+PSU - Antec Sonata 3 ( PSU shipped of 500w extremely silent and stable ) - 100£
Motherboard - gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R :tup: - 80£
RAM - 2x1 Go Corsair XMS PC6400 DDR2 - 60£
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 + rad stock - 150£
Graphic Card - geforce 8800GT 512mo - 220£
HDD - Samsung Spinpoint 500 go - 90 £ (?)

Well, the order is in. Based on everything I've read here, Derdak's recommendation really did seem about right.

I've varied it in two respects:
1. I've gove for an Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz, which would appear to be compatible with the mobo; and
2. I've gone for PC5300 RAM rather than PC6400.

Additional items:
- Samsung SyncMaster 206BW (20" widescreen TFT monitor);
- Samsung 20x DVD Writer
- USB wireless adapter
- Windows XP Home OEM (32-bit, will suffice for now);
- MS Office 2007 Home & Student Edition;
- Norton Internet Security 2008

Total: Only slightly over £1000.

Today I also bought a keyboard and wireless mouse in a shop. I shall re-use my existing Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS in the new PC; the PC that I'm using at the moment also has an on-board sound system that is presently disabled, so taking the Audigy out won't render it mute forever.

I've used StarOffice, which I understand to be based on OpenOffice, but frankly I'd prefer to have MS Office.

I'm tempted to look for the same specs.
Let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. According to this morning's sample, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.
