On Monday us people on the east coast of the United States will be going through a category 1 hurricane, Sandy... :/ I hope she won't be TOO bad as she's just a category 1... Is there a such thing as a category 6 hurricane?

It won't be classified as a hurricane, BUT ! the whole storm is so large that the winds or rain will take a long time to pass by.Heck we are on the east side of Michigan , and further east in Illinois say they will be getting winds of 55 mph and will last like 21 hours or something, 25 foot waves. (wind from the east)

Hurricane Sandy is massive. It was nicknamed Frankenstorm when it started heading to the US, as it joined up with a bunch of other weather fronts and absorbed them, but that's just a cutesy nickname to get away from the truth.

Sandy is a SuperStorm. They're an anticipated by-product of Global Warming.

I think the media lies about stuff like this so people die... I bet West coasters don't even know what a hurricane really is since they've never had one. Though the US has the worst weather in the world, merry England doesn't get extreme stuff like that...

Seems the western side of the clouds has already reached us, lines up with the east edge of Lake Michigan.

ADD-EDIT
I think they bump up the radar depth sensitivity for things, for the news.I can see the moon outside, but if you see the radar they are showing it's all colored in, blue.
No rain, it's actually pretty nice outside right now

I noticed this before on some storm, looks like all hell is cutting loose on the radar, but the weather was just light rain. They can show turbulence, or precipitation density settings, so a light rain or light wind could be set to look red.

What does a white ring around the moon mean?! I seen it Saturday when I was at a Halloween party.

I'm on long island. Pretty windy and very rainy, but the thing isn't even here yet. Ceiling sprouted a few leaks so far. During Irene we lost power for a few days and they are saying Sandy will be a little worse, though they can't predict just who is going to get hit the baddest. I'm all prepared to lose some power, got myself a few books I've been meaning to read anyway.

Is Long Island not in the mandatory evac zone? The storm surge is rated a 5.8 out of 6.0 for this storm, so even though it's a Category 1, it's more dangerous than Katrina and other Category 5 storms due to water damage potential.

I dunno about mandatory, but a lot of evacuations are taking place. Mostly near the shorelines and Fire Island from what I hear. We're pretty much just waiting for the show to start.

I was hoping you would chime in, I think it will be a LONG episode, get those buckets ready, keep us up to date as long as you can anyway.

Michigan, we do have wind right now, east side of Michigan, seen the blue sky creeping away to our west, clouds from the east a edge to the clouds, that was all blue, it's coming, mainly wind I presume here.
