Salutations!

As some of you might have seen, I'm playing games again. And since I'm trying to get more into the effort of recording content on my PS4, I'd thought I'd simultaneously show you what I've been up to as well as share my opinions.

So Bloodborne is out, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't my most anticipated game of the year. Those of you who are familiar with From Software's 2009 game Demon's Souls and its successors the Dark Souls games might know a little bit about this one and the kind of cult following the Souls series has. While the Souls games were dark fantasy, Bloodborne is gothic horror.

I love this game and its predecessors for doing what I wished more games did, and that's be games. The most ruthless definition of what a video game is, that is. Story is minimalist and like Souls you will be mostly be putting the pieces back together, breadcrumb by breadcrumb. You patrol a fallen city under the grips of an endless night, whose inhabitants have succumbed to a plague that turns people into horrible beasts (werewolves and other aberrations). There are precious few cutscenes and they hardly focus on exposition. You'll glean scraps of other information from the few NPCs who can still speak coherently.

Swap souls with blood, and this is very familiar. But while Dark Souls focused on bettering what Demon's trailblazed, Bloodborne feels like a true successor. They ditch defensive mechanics almost completely, adding period firearms like dueling pistols and blunderbusses to compliment the "switch-blade" melee weapons. You move quickly and utilize a chain of offensive attacks and counters to stagger enemies for critical hits.

Of course, so much of this game is trial by error and learn by doing. So even individual battles sometiems feel like great triumphs when you covercome them, and every new area hits you in the gut with that plunging feeling as you anticipate the next time the game says "checkmate."

It's hard, certainly, and I've died a lot so far. But every death is a learning experience. A "oh wow" or "Hmmm, interesting," and certainly NOT a "dammit, that was cheap!" A good game makes the player feel like it's smarter than them, and thus the player must rise to the challenge.

I'll answer more about it from those that are curious, some of you may have enjoyed Souls but don't have access to a PS4 to try this one yet. But sometimes nothing explains it like seeing, and here I post my first video. I will periodically upload more when I have the time to edit. I'm deep into the game atm, but my first video (and likely the first few to follow) is compiled from my first day with the game. The first one mainly shows how the character creation looks, the first obstacle I had to overcome (always a big opening fight in these games) and me getting some starter weapons.

Sorry I've been out of the loop. I have uploaded a few more videos since the previous. Based on the lack of replies I'm guessing maybe nobody is really curious about this game, but I'll post these just the same. If you've been following the thread you know that I don't make the videos long enough to be a true let's play, but if you were planning on playing it avert your eyes since bosses and some scenes are spoiled.

^I like stuff like this in games. If you rush through something you may miss a hint or item that would have helped you overcome a boss. Lesser games would insist you find said item or force you into a path where a hint is a revealed. In here, I died to Gascoigne several times before I went back and explored (the intention being to farm blood echoes so I could make myself stronger). Lo and behold I missed an NPC. Now, does the item really help me here? Hard to say. More correct to say that I just got better. But still.

^I think this is around the time I start to get used to the game. Start to play better. I also decide on a weapon that becomes my main form of attack for the rest of the game. It's a spear that turns into a rifle. Yeah. I also do quite good on this boss for a change.

^And then I get schooled. There is always that one boss that gives you problems. I meet my bane in this video, and eventually stay alive long enough to progress. The game also starts to take me out of the gothic city, proving that there's more to this game.

BloodBorne is one of the games I'm most excited to play (and Souls games are some of the very few that could almost justify a console in themselves for me now), but I'm waiting for a major price drop/new model of the PS4 before I get one, so I want to keep myself as unspoiled as possible before then.

OK, I'll confirm my interest then  .
Not for playing the game itself, but I do like to see the videos.
Let's just say I enjoy watching you play, but I'm not intersted in playing any new games (except perhaps minecraft - fond memories of me playing Lego before I quit using diapers - who knows I might do both in the near future  ).

^There's an interesting feature to the game called the chalice dungeon. The way it works is that you can find these chalices at various parts of the game and use them to auto-generate a dungeon with randomized rooms, loot, and bosses. The bosses are either reused strong enemies from the game prepared in unique situations or completely new creatures that don't actually appear in the main story. The Dungeon you see here features four, two examples of both. I'm told that you can find stronger versions of the starting weapons, but as of yet I have not found any. An online component would allow me to share these dungeons with friends, if I wasn't playing offline.

^Then game starts to lean into HP Lovecraft territory from this point on, weird arcane cult stuff and bizarre creatures. Boss fights start to also get more and more different.

^And now we're knee deep in Cthulu territory. I begin to regress to a more timid approach when I find myself in a completely weird and unprecedented style than seen previously. Also, it was pretty cool to fight a true to form Lovecraftian boss that felt truly Lovecraftian and not weakly derivative like I see in a lot of games.

I just want to say that all 15 of my Bloodborne videos have been uploaded, I have completed the game and am going through it a second time with a friend for a COOP run in which we made characters based on Blade and Whistler (from the Blade movies; my buddy's preference. I did make a pretty sick Whistler though). I will likely upload the Blade videos here since they are kind of funny and laid back.

But something MMAN said struck a chord with me and it dawned on me that maybe I was showing too many spoilers. So if you want to watch the remaining videos, by all means click the last one and watch through my channel.

This was a splendid game and one I am feverishly enjoying replaying it of based on the fact that it is so rich with little things you can miss based on choices you make (or don't make). I did pretty good on my first run, got what is considered the "intermediate" ending (meaning I fought one of the true final bosses, but not both of them). This is due to the fact that there was a few particular items I did not pay enough attention to that would have made a difference in the end. Otherwise, there is only one other boss I did not beat (optional guy for a shortcut unlock) and I managed to find all the game areas on my own.

If anyone else on the forum has a PS4, please PM me!

Okay, so as I said me and a buddy made our entire 2nd playthrough (my first online experience with Bloodborne) as the characters Blade and Whistler from the Wesley Snipe movies. As before, a lot of the game is seen so if you don't want spoilers, avert eyes.

We use bad language so NSFW. First five vids:

This has been complete for a while, but MMAN's bumping of my Dying Light thread emboldened me to update this one. My "Blade" themed run of the game, as previously documented in video 1-5 has been concluded in videos 6-9.
