In this thread, because I am also partially bored again, I've decided we should explain to why we use the elaborate and often strange/unique usernames we have now. Beginning with me...

I got the name GTD-Carthage from an old 1998 space-combat simulation game called FreeSpace 2. Back then, FS2 was extremely popular and earned high ratings for its great gameplay, controls, music, and storyline (Yes, the storyline! It's good and it's not geeky ol' Star Trek! [no offense]) that definitely captured my attention.

"GTD-Carthage" is the name of an Orion-class destroyer belonging to the Galactic Terrain Alliance first appearing in the mission "Lion at the Door" where the player encounters his first engagement with the FS-series's main enemies, the alien Shivan race. GTD Carthage, along with its Vasudan escort corvette the GVCv Dahshor, enters the fray near the end of the mission and gets attacked by a screen of badass Seraphim bombers. (The two ships usually survive anyway without the need of the player's help.)

Here's a picture of it: :D

Info's about the GTD Orion class of destroyers:
http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/tech ... rion.shtml

SO THERE! Now all of you know that GTD doesn't mean Got-To-Die. :P (It means Galactic Terran Destroyer). A custom mod a few years ago came out where GTD Carthage gets destroyed as part of the story. I was already using the name before that happened. :P Somebody probably hates me for using the name. I've always thought of using this name to honor FreeSpace 2's community after I believed it had died out with the closure of VolitionWatch.

So what's the history of YOUR username? :D

My name comes from ripping off UA's one. UA, then UB. I had to think something about the B anyway. So I played GOW and the first boss did the work.

I used to be called names at school. Because my name sounds a lot like the Dutch word for weasel (wezel) I was always called "the weasel". One day one of my friends made a joke out of it by adding "ultimate" in front, and tada! My nickname was born. :B

I don't recall how it happened, but in the late nineties when I was playing a lot of online shooters my user name was Prophet. All through the original Unreal online, Half-life multiplayer, AVP...all those great games, I was Prophet. I think even the earliest versions of my first released map for UT, DM-UrbanDistortion...used that shorter alias. Long before I joined Team Phalanx with Hourences (I met him when he was beta testing DM-Sion, before the days of Amon and Ortican) and other guys like Gmotha and Lruce Bee, I was part of a smaller team called Urban Distortion. The link and the site no longer exists I believe, but there was a few of us and only 1 active guy I ever talked to, which was the team founder. If you play DM-UrbanDistortion you can see ALL of our selected UT character models behind glass in a certain part of the map. None of us were very good mappers. We even started work on what would have been my first SP experience (called simply "Vastness") but the team dissolved early into that endeavor and I was already making better maps with Phalanx. I wonder if any traces of Vastness exists on the interwebs...

But the name "Mister_Prophet" came about because of my Yahoo email account. I had sort of whizzed through the profile making process because I just wanted a working email and for a first name I simply filled in Mister to get it done. What I didn't realize is that my outgoing mail would be seen as Mister Prophet. Desert Fox, the guy who ran the team, sort of assumed that was my full handle and put it on the site. I guess...I never corrected him. It stuck.

The very first online name I had was 'Adrian Shephard', since I was absolutely obsessed with hl opposing force when I was 11. During this time I was mostly playing Team Fortress classic or resorted to UT when a hl patch came out (back in those days, when a new hl patch was released my modem speed wasn't fast enough to download it within 12 hours so I obtained it as soon as it was attributed and released with a monthly pc gamer mag).

After that, I discovered the existance of Evil-islands (one of the best games I've ever played, a russian rpg which didn't sell very well). A few weeks after starting multiplayer I became enfuriated by some hacker who pked me, which made me hell-bent on revenge. Called my new character Terminator; being as childish i was back then my bind/slogan was something like (Y0u r£13A$eD $0mEtHiNg $1n1sTeR) and ran around hunting down notorious hackers and pkers while at the same time annoying the shit out of everyone who just wanted to play the game normally.

Well anyway, after a while I figured out that my presence was objected by just about everyone who played the game. I found out what I was doing wrong and decided to turn over a new leaf, (I was arrogant in a sense that, I found it unacceptable if somebody thought using hacked equipment was wrong, and would childishly try to kill them because they had a different opinion to mine) from then on I dicided to play honest and legit, and chose the name kajgue off of the top of my head (influenced by too much Dragon ball z, probably).

Yeah, but instead of doing a good job at getting along with people, I ran this cut-throat band of egotistical and arrogant pks called the XWarriors (which were legit) and hunted down anyone who didn't want to play the game legitomately (in that game, getting items or money from other people is concidered unlegit). I naively saw this as something along the lines of "the way of light", or "the way everyone is meant to be". The penalties for death in Evil-Islands are huge loss' in exp (a strong character would lose something like 500 thousand exp, and it would go below 0).

As much as I resent the little shit that I used to be, those times were pretty exhillerating. If someone unlegit would enter our server, we would act all innocent untill they came out onto the map, and it went something like

Kajgue: Sarge, you know what to do.
Sarge: Yes, sir.
*walks behind target while whistling, all innocent and chite*

First nick i've used was kluns (dutch translation for: clumsy fool) during my quakeworld/quakespy days in early '98. The reason behind this name was that i was relatively new to fps back then, and i apparantly wanted to make it clear that i was a n00b and people should go easy on me, i figured everyone in the game was a n00b, those were the days when everyone still played with +mlook disabled

second name i've been using was ÐéâthAñgêl, particulary in unreal1/ut back in '99, although i've still been using kluns for any other game (q3, SoF etc), i got this name after hearing two random people brainstorming about nicknames somewhere on the street, one mentioned the death and the other one said angel, and i kinda stole my idea from that.
ÐéâthAñgêl left quite a reputation for being a shitty player in the early days, not only in coop did i frequently knock people off the ledges in the sunspire/bluff, but i also loved to spam with ascii keybinds, which is probably the reason as when i grew older i decided to drop that name and the bad stuff associated with it as it completely goes against my current behavior ethics :P

Eventually it became Turboman, back at highschool, games like NFS and Carmageddon were pretty hawt and i used to play them like crazy, People started calling me Turboman which i stuck with since then. I believe i was also heavily into Tribes with alot of people from my class (hacked demo fullgame hybrid :P ).

I'm still frequently on in unreal under the name beerwolf, which is another story as someone once gave me a crappy drawing of a monsterish thingy and called it the beerwolf.

My name came from a really flimsy band I used to be in, we needed a name for it and I deviced "X-epptizZ" which sounds a lot like "Accept this" or " Except this" or "Sceptic" in a very elaborate way.

After the band went dead I kept on using the name as my nick for it's originality purposes, never had trouble with this nick.

Since you are dutch, I always assumed it was like sceptisch.. like sceptic (like you mentioned)... never thought of the other possibilities tho.

I've told this story a lot of times.

My first FPS was Quake (aged 16-ish), and I was absolutely in awe of it. Those who've played Quake a lot will, of course know that the Scrags are floating white beasts that spit green fire / snot at you.

Scrags have pretty chilling sound effects and I thought they were a pretty original creation. There are two Knight classes in Quake, namely the Knight and the Death Knight (also known as the Hell Knight). Hell Scrag, therefore, seemed to be the logical extension of the name.

I entered my first couple of Quake deathmatches as Hellscrag and was recruited by the Gangsta Clan. As I was then part of a specific online Quake community and was known to others as Hellscrag, the name "stuck" and has been with me ever since. I actually think the name is totally puerile, but what would be the point in changing it now?

Names I have used include (from memory):

Quake:

Hellscrag
HellscragGC
Italiano.GC
[GC]-Scrag

Quake II:

Hellscrag

I think that's just on Nali City. When Nali City 3 went live, they imported various of my old maps to the name "Hellscrag", but didn't give me a login...

Kuddo's for getting that one all together :D. Most don't even bother to think about it. Also, the other guy in charge wanted something like Krezip, which added to the chain of thought for XepptizZ

I believe I already explained this once (or that was another forum?).
My name comes from Micro Machines, old game by Codemasters released back in 1994. It was name of one of the drivers there.
This name (Jethro) can also be found in Holy Bible in Exodus book, but I found that out later and that's not my inspiration.
