As I said I'd give up mapping if I didn't finish this, so it's continuing. I'm on a bit of break right now though. I was planning to put up an upcoming maps entry but I want to get back to making progress before I do that.

So?!?
It seems I overlooked this topic. OK, seems it was an ex-10th anniv contest entry ... and exit.
Another map in progress??
Wow, this definetely means I can play Unreal until the end of my days, seems I won't even have time to replay campaigns

Screenshots look promising, actually quite a lot of detail already and the colours remind me of an area in a large pack (probably 7B, perhaps ONP I'm not sure).

I somehow missed commenting here during the contests timeframe. Whatever.

I like those shots, there is a great use of the details in the Ancient textures to make the place look more detailed than it is. :)

Yep, definitely looking forward to this one. The shots really have that Unreal atmosphere imo.

Mman wrote:Now for a mapping question. Is it possible to create a Cylinder with even sides without nasty grid issues? The Cylinder builder seems to make even-sided ones but it ends up really-off grid. The 2D editor version I've made is on grid but the sides seem a little uneven however I tweak it. Is there a way to have it just right? Preferably a 2D editor shape as then I can resize it how I want whenever I need it.

Hello and sorry for the crude thread necromancy. I just wanted to suggest that one possible way to achieve a cylinder which has (nearly) the same size faces, is on-grid and symmetrical is to:

1) build using the canonical "cylinder builder" of any given size and number of sides, and
2) simply vertex edit each point of the cylinder to the next closest grid point.

Obviously you will have to treat each vertex of the cylinder in the same manner - working out and away from the center to make the brush symmetrical. I have tried this before previously and to my knowledge UEd seems not to mind... Anyone else try this?

By the way, the screenies look great. I'm looking forward to the eventual release!

of course thanks to Pythagoras it's impossible to actually get an even sided cylinder on grid. (vertex editing will make the sides slightly non-even). Those pesky diagonals will always be longer.

Well thanks, I guess I'll see how that goes when ( ) this gets revived.

I still plan on finishing it, but the context for it's use will be very different if/when I do get around to reviving it.

Let's call it undead ;) .
